What Our Clients Say
What Is Vestibular Rehabilitation and How Can It Help?

The vestibular system is responsible for helping your body maintain balance and spatial awareness. Located within the inner ear, it communicates with the brain to coordinate eye movements, posture, and stability.
When this system becomes disrupted, it can lead to symptoms such as:
- DizzinessVertigo (a spinning sensation)
- Loss of balance
- Difficulty focusing vision during movement
- Nausea related to motion
- Sensitivity to quick head movements
- Unsteadiness while walking
Vestibular rehabilitation is a form of physiotherapy designed to retrain the brain and body to respond properly to movement and balance signals.
At Tandem Physiotherapy & Wellness, treatment may involve:
- Balance training exercises
- Eye and head coordination exercises
- Gradual exposure to movement triggers
- Postural stability training
- Walking and mobility exercises
These exercises help the brain adapt to changes in the vestibular system, allowing you to move more comfortably and confidently.
For individuals searching for Vestibular Rehabilitation London, Ontario, therapy often leads to meaningful improvements in stability and daily function.
How Does Our Vestibular Therapy Approach Work?
Every person experiences dizziness and balance issues differently. At Tandem Physiotherapy & Wellness, vestibular rehabilitation begins with understanding your symptoms and how they affect your daily activities.
Comprehensive Assessment
Your first appointment includes a detailed evaluation of your symptoms, health history, and movement patterns. We assess balance, eye coordination, head movement tolerance, and walking stability. We use videonystagmography , a specialised equipment that captures eye movements in the absence of light when the head moves. The test uses infrared goggles to record eye movements, evaluating the vestibular (inner ear) system and brain function to determine the cause of vertigo, dizziness, or balance disorders This assessment helps identify how your vestibular system is functioning and what factors may be contributing to dizziness or instability.
Individualized Treatment Plan
Based on the results of your assessment, we develop a treatment program designed specifically for your needs. Exercises are carefully selected to challenge the vestibular system in a controlled and progressive way. As your body adapts, the exercises evolve to encourage further improvement.
Gradual Progression of Exercises
Vestibular therapy often begins with gentle movements and simple balance exercises. Over time, these exercises gradually become more dynamic as your stability improves. This progression helps the brain adapt and reduce symptoms triggered by movemOngoing Monitoring and Support

Vestibular Rehabilitation London, Ontario FAQs
Recovery timelines vary depending on the cause and severity of symptoms. Some individuals notice improvement within a few sessions, while others may need several weeks of consistent therapy. Progress depends on how the vestibular system responds to exercises and how regularly the recommended home program is performed.
Certain exercises may temporarily trigger mild dizziness during therapy sessions. This is often part of the rehabilitation process because the exercises help your brain adapt to movement signals. Symptoms typically improve as treatment progresses and the vestibular system gradually becomes more tolerant to motion.
Vestibular rehabilitation is often recommended for older adults experiencing balance concerns or age-related dizziness. Exercises are carefully adapted to each individual’s mobility level. The focus is on improving stability, coordination, and confidence during movement while minimizing the risk of falls during everyday activities.
Most vestibular therapy programs include a home exercise plan. Practicing exercises between sessions helps reinforce the progress made during appointments and encourages faster adaptation of the vestibular system. Your physiotherapist will provide clear guidance on how often to perform the exercises safely.
It may be helpful to seek vestibular rehabilitation if dizziness, vertigo, or balance problems persist for several days, interfere with daily activities, or occur frequently. Early assessment can help identify the cause of symptoms and provide guidance on appropriate treatment strategies for improving stability.
